There are nights I can’t sleep. I know, shocker. In the middle of the night, I creak across my old wooden floors and do the next best thing to midnight snacking, midnight browsing food porn. Keep your judgment and eye rolling to yourself because, ONE, we all know I’m not the only one who's done it and TWO, there are zero calories in the latter activity.
As Prince Charming gets his beauty rest, what am I perusing at ungodly hours? One of my favorite sites is a local Chicago interior design firm whose blog focuses on restaurant design around the world. These cool cats are, well, the coolest and I’m so hoping to run into them in my hood one day. Kaper Design, owned by Katie and Dan Perkins, specializes in beautifully curated hospitality spaces. Check out their site and click on INSPIRATION to see one of the best blogs, especially if you love design + food. It usually makes me want to eat, redecorate a room or travel far, far away. Eating is usually the cheapest and closest option. But their site is a great escape. Kaperdesign.com
Another good find, but it’s only a teaser, is Good Company Magazine. Oh how I wish I could snap better photos. But I am great on Instagram and I get a ton of likes. Good Company is photo delicious with clean recipes. Get the preview online and the mag in stores. Goodcompanymagazine.com
Manger by Mimi Thorisson is the truest sense of a blog with gorgeous photos that capture the food, the author's life and her family. All of the photography is taken by her husband and she incluces her recipes as well. Ugh and she’s beautiful. She’s French. And she cooks. Have a looksy for yourself. Manger.com
A winner of saveur.com best blogs and just as the site states, "where food + images meet." Oh so true V.K. Rees. And I love scrolling through those images, specifically the ones where you can feel the energy of the journey. It’s a blog I want to travel along and wish I found myself in some of the pictures. V.K. Rees has created a hipster postcard to everyone. Vkreesphotography.com
Lastly, I've seen Aran of Cannelle et Vanille speak at seminars and fell in love with her blog years ago. She's a freelance photographer and Basque ex-pat with a passion for food and family. I try to check her site as often as I can to feel inspired about living a more beautiful life enriched by the outdoors. I often imagine myself running through fields in slow motion and picking berries with Aran and her children. It's a little strange, I know. I learned a lot listening to her speak about food photography, although you would never know by my own photos. cannelleetvanille.com
